We are very happy to announce our sponsorship of Waterloo Codefest, an “Open-Data” Hackathon hosted by the City of Waterloo to continue the city’s commitment to providing open and transparent data. Cloud-A is pleased to be providing a free year of cloud infrastructure to the winner of the Hackathon to support the commercialization of the winning application. In addition to Cloud-A’s contribution, our partner Cloud 66 is also providing $500 in free DevOps-as-a-service to the winner.
Raj Sian, of the City of Waterloo, talked about Cloud-A’s contribution to the Hackathon:
We wish to thank Cloud-A for sponsoring Waterloo CodeFest and for supplying the winning mobile application developed with cloud based infrastructure for one year. In sponsoring Waterloo CodeFest, Cloud-A is supporting entrepreneurship and innovation along with assisting the City of Waterloo in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for an open and accountable government. – Raj Sian, City of Waterloo

In addition to our sponsorship, Cloud-A team member Geoff Sullivan will be judging the Hackathon alongside Waterloo Mayor, Dave Jaworsky, Hack the North Director, Kartik Talwar and Amaris Gerson, Lead Organizer of HackerNest KW. The Hackathon takes place on October 24 and 25th at Waterloo’s Centre for International Governance Innovation.
Cloud-A is dedicated to the growth of Canada’s tech sector, promoting the use of open, modern cloud technology and cloud native application development as a competitive advantage and driver for economic development, and we feel that Waterloo Codefest encompasses these same values.
We are very much looking forward to supporting and attending Waterloo Codefest. We feel that events like this help foster innovation within Canada and show the power of open source and open data – both of which are very near to our hearts.
